  1. I think that poverty is necessary. In order to have a country like ours, where people can control their own destiny by working for their money, someone will get the short end. Although poverty isn’t good, it is necessary.

I think the poverty level has been dropping lately. I think there is a lot more awareness surrounding the problem. Countries that are well off try to help third-world countries. At the same time, all the help and awareness may not be helping.

  2. Throughout history poverty continues to be a never ending cycle. When you hear the word ‘poverty,’ bad thoughts come to mind, but actually our economy strives off of poverty. It gives people a reason to work hard, which results in continued advancements in every aspect of life.

Without poverty everyone would be earning the same amount of money. When this happens there’s no way to ever exceed your income. Then, a mind set takes over and people don’t see the point in working hard any more. All they see is someone doing an easy job while they’re working hard, yet they earn the same amount of money. When this happens no advancements take place, and people aren’t striving to do their best.

  3. I think poverty is a bad thing, but it is necessary. Without poverty there wouldn’t be any rich people. Certain countries wouldn’t thrive without some kind of poverty. The countries that aren’t in poverty try to help those who are in poverty.

Imperialism has increased the poverty level. When countries such as the U.S. go into third world countries they force democracies upon them. When this happens, it causes more and more poverty throughout the world. The countries forcing imperialism upon the third world countries are thriving while the other countries are suffering.

  4. People cannot be rich without poverty. No one would want to get dirty and do the dirty work if everyone was all rich. Even though we don’t want anyone to be in poverty, someone has to be in order to make others wealthy. Someone has to be willing to get paid a low wage to do work that wealthy people will not do.

In the 1800s, 90 percent of the population was in poverty. In 2011, the percentage dropped to about 15 to 20 percent. I’m glad that the poverty rate has greatly decreased. However, there still needs to be poverty. However, I do believe that countries that are in severe poverty should be greatly helped. I don’t think they should be drinking nasty and dangerous water and living in dangerous conditions.

  5. I think the video mainly focused on poverty. I think that the video was trying to get us to think that there is poverty all over the world. That poverty is not just in one place. Poverty is everywhere

I also think that the video was trying to say that poverty is still here today. There really is no escaping it. It is very hard to escape it especially if you are born into it. And even if you are rich you can get poor in a hurry.

  6. I believe that poverty is always going to be occurring. If someone is going through poverty they should seek a good job, or some kind of stable working field. Although it will not be easy, it is just destined that some people will have to struggle more then others, it may not be fair but it is what is happening.

As it showed in the video, poverty is an ongoing occurrence. It is not something that is going to go away with the blink of an eye. I do think people have started to step up, and go out and find a good job so they can avoid poverty as much as possible. I don’t think poverty levels will ever go down, but I do believe that it is going to get better.

  7. I feel that poverty is an issue in our country. But we have to have poor people in order for there to be rich people. Its like somebody who is really athletic and somebody who has to work hard to get all there ability to do anything.

I think the poverty has been dropping and has became less of an issue to most people around our area i feel that our county is a pretty fair level money level across the board.

  8. I believe we need poverty. I’m not saying we need more people starving and that are homeless, but people that do the dirty jobs. In order to become a successful person, more than likely people will have to make sacrifices. Poverty is needed to get jobs done that we need on a daily basis. Poverty is what makes the rich, rich.

I noticed that in every era that had poverty, there was a force behind it that created more poverty. In the Inca Emperor, European conquistadors took all of the Inca’s treasures and enslaved them. China had the relief to help the people in poverty but simply didn’t help because if would taken money from the rich. Work houses were big failures because many people used it and played the work house system. Mainly pregnant women, children, and elderly.

  9. If there was no poor then there would be no rich. If there was no rich there would be no money to fund privitly owned businesses or organizations. The world needs privately owned organizations and businesses or the world would be completly ran by the government.

I don’t think that poverty is good but it is better then a socialist government where the owner and founder of a huge company is making the same money as a someone who doesn’t have a job. I think we need poverty to have rich people to have private businesses.

  10. The video was set up as a dream that a “normal” person who has not financial problem had. In the dream, it talks about the history of poverty. Poverty has pretty much been around forever. It has always been present in history, all over the world, including Paris, Egypt, America, and many other places.

Poverty keeps the rich rich and some believe in the trickle down effect, however that doesn’t work. At the end of the movie, the dreamer wakes up and continues on with the daily life that was had before. I think this was supposed to show that most people act like poverty is just a dream, that it doesn’t exist that much. They act like it isn’t a problem. However, it is.

At the end of the movie, the dreamer wakes up and continues on with the daily life that was had before. I think this was supposed to show that most people act like poverty is kind of like a dream, that it doesn’t exist that much or isn’t that “real”. They act like it isn’t a problem. However, it is.

  12. I think poverty is when you are not able to afford what you need, you are called poor, then not being able to afford things makes you seem poor to other people. Someone can use the money they get on things they don’t need instead of buying food for their families.

There are more job opportunities now so more people can become employed and that is making the poverty rates are go down. Some people are making an effort to go out and get a income coming back into their lives.

  13. I think that poverty is needed but there should be programs to help the poor who actually want to work. Some people who are poor are just born into it and don’t want to be poor their whole life so they try and go to college but they’re to poor. I think that when the government helps poor people they should do a background check and help them if they have drug problems.

I also think that people who are in poverty could get out of it if they really wanted to. There have been many famous people who came from poor families and still succeed. On the other hand most people don’t get out of poverty because it is hard to.
