Soc – Solving Poverty

Write 3-4 paragraphs describing how you would solve the issue of poverty here in America.

  • Include necessities of life.
  • Make sure people aren’t just getting the necessities of life but they have opportunities to free time to progress their lives
  • What would this cost the American people or the private donors?
  • Are there similar organizations. Did you combine similar organizations?
  • Will this help those who are in poverty because of: Physical Disorder, Mental Disorder, Natural Disaster, Famine . . . ?

You may work with a partner to help create this organization or foundation, but each member must write a description.

  1. Our organization would be called Pay It Forward. It would be 100 percent funded by volunteers and donors. The first step would be to get enough supplies and volunteers to build one apartment housing complex. Homeless people would be allowed to live in these apartments for free under one condition. They need to pay it forward by helping others when they are in need. The organization would collect money from donations to pay for electricity and other needs. Donations such as toilet paper, toothbrushes, and food would be given to the families living in the apartment.

The organization would help the adults find jobs, so they can get back on their feet. We would teach them how to create a financial plan, and how to save and spend their money correctly. Once a family has become financially independent they will be expected to move out and live on their own so other homeless people can move in and get help. Hopefully, by the time a family is ready to move out, they will have learned the main concept we have taught them, to pay it forward. Hopefully, they will join in and volunteer in our organization so they too can make a difference in someone’s life. Once we have gained enough supplies, money, and volunteers, we can expand and hopefully spread the organization throughout the whole United States.

There are many other organizations in the world that give shelter to the homeless. However, that is all they do. They don’t teach them how to deal with their finances or how to pay it forward to others. Our organization is unique and teaches lessons besides giving them a place to sleep at night.

  3. Foreclosure to Flourishing
Funding would come from donations from individuals and groups
My purpose for this organization would be to buy houses and land that were being foreclosed on. A lot of houses that are being foreclosed on sell for very cheap so that would help with the costs. I would take the foreclosed houses that I bought and turn them into apartment buildings where multiple families whose homes had been foreclosed on, could live. They would have their own sleeping a living space and share a kitchen, rec. room/living room etc.
By giving these people a roof over their head, especially by keeping them with their families, if would give them more motivation to go out and look for a job than if they were homeless they may have just given up hope at this point. Once they get and hold a job then can start contributing to the food and utilities costs of the apartment building that they live in.

  4. Our non-profit company would be called The Food Farm. It would be a website where people could go to pick farm products to donate such as livestock, grain, or fruits or vegetables. There would be games that people could play to get things donated or a place where money donations could be taken.

The donations would come from farmers around the midwest that had extra products to donate. Also, when the people decide to donate corn, that would go to a cereal company that would donate a certain amount of cereal to food pantries and soup kitchens. Cash donations would be used for fruits and vegetables since they are not grown as much in the midwest.

This organization would help many people in rural areas that are impoverished. Many people do not know about the amount of poverty that actually happens in the midwest. In the midwest there are 9 million people living in poverty, 15% of the midwest’s population. Hopefully a business like this would be able to help rid poverty in our area.

  5. J & D Stops Poverty
private and state funded organization. Build apartment buildings in cities with a poverty rate of 20% or higher. The people would get jobs by helping maintain the apartments. Have a website where people can make donations that will go to supplies. People are able to volunteer to help. Have assemblies around the US to promote our organization. Tenants will work 8 hours a week in the apartments so they can use the other time to spend looking for a job. If they struggle finding a job, then the hours they help the apartment will increase. For every $20 donated, 5 of it will go to maintenance, etc. A restaurant will be attached to the hotel where people can eat, money will go to the cooks, necessities, etc. Paid living in the apartments can get jobs at the restaurant and get paid for doing so. Tips will go towards the families in poverty

  6. J&D Stops Poverty Here
Our organization would be private and state-funded. We would build apartment buildings in big cities with poverty percentage exceeding twenty percent or higher. We would have a restaurant attached to the apartment buildings. People that live in the city can come in and eat. The waitresses would be some of the people that were living in the apartment. The money from the check would go to cooks, necessities, etc. The tips that the people leave will go towards the families in poverty. People living in the apartment can get jobs by maintaining the apartment. They would have to work eight hours a week in the apartments, so they have some free time to find a job. If they can’t find a job, their hours will increase. Our organization would have it’s own personal website where people can donate money, and the donations will go to food and building supplies for the apartments. For every $20, $5 will go to maintenance and etc. People that are interested in our organization can volunteer and help out. We could also go around the US and have assemblies to promote what we are doing.

  7. My organization would be a burger bar on wheels where this truck would drive around and feed the homeless or anyone who is in poverty for free. We would have sponsors pay for all of the meals. And anyone who wasn’t homeless or in poverty but still wanted to eat, they could pay for their own meal but a small percentage would go towards to the homeless and the poverty. The name for the truck would be Big Daddy’s Burger Pit.

  8. Our organization is called The Food Farm. our program is to help people in the midwest that need help with getting food. The ways we get the food we give to people are from framers the donate to us like grains and livestock that we will proses and give to the people in need to use.

ways you can help. there are many was you could help you can help by giving us vegetables or fruits you could also give produce but if you would rather to something els you could donate money to use. You could always go in to the website and play games and will donate for that too.

  9. The organization Emma and I came up with is called Stepping Out of Poverty. This organization would be educate construction workers to build a community, employ educated people in the community to teach others, and educate them in agriculture to sustain a farm. There would be education to teach others how to get jobs and how to sustain their community. Stepping Out of Poverty would help start communities to create jobs, housing, and schools.

To keep poverty from continuing, Stepping Out of Poverty would help create different businesses. A wellness and community center for people to stay active and have a safe place to meet and interact.

Funds from Stepping Out of Poverty would mainly come from national 5ks. Other funding would come from donations, applying for grants, and fundraisers such as t-shirts, booths/stands at fairs or events. Social media would be a great outlet for this organization as well. Volunteers would be vital, especially those who are trained in the construction and various education areas.

  10. Hannah and I came up with an organization called Stepping Out of Poverty. Stepping Out of Poverty is a 5K fundraiser where participants are challenged to raise as much money as they can and then take part in the 5K race with fellow runners and walkers who also raised money. These 5Ks would take place in large cities nationwide in hopes to raise the largest amount of money possible.

With the money raised from the 5Ks, donations, and other fundraisers, volunteers would help build small communities in poverty stricken areas. Depending on the amount of money raised, the communities would include, but not be limited to homes, apartments, restaurants, farmland, markets, hospitals, and schools. The working class would be taught construction skills and then would be employed to help with the building process. Everyone would become educated in agriculture in order to learn about crops, livestock, and water sources needed to survive. Money could also be used to give an education to individuals who wanted to become doctors, nurses, chefs or other careers.

The goal of Stepping Out of Poverty is to help put an end to the cycle of poverty. By providing people with shelter, employment, and education, we believe that we could make a difference in the world. By educating people in need, we are able to give them an opportunity to help themselves and the younger generations to follow them.

  11. You could give the people job so they have money and you could build a big shelter so they had a place to live. They could pay a little out of what they make. A little to help pay for there food. It could be done with 3.5 million to build the shelter, and to pay for the food. Get a food truck drive around and find the people that are in poverty and give them free so they do not starve and so they do not have to go search for food every day and go without. I would put up a cattle shed some can work there and some could work at the food bank and in the shelter. We could even get a transport bus that way they could get around until they have enough money to buy a car. If there was people that did not want to work at the cattle barn and the food bank we could help them find a job that they would like to do.

  12. My foundation would help out people in poverty by having a little town for people in poverty where the food and everything will be payed for and they could go out into the city and get a job and work them selves out of poverty and make enough money to get there own houses and start a new life. The businesses would donate money for the little town that was made for the people in poverty.

  13. Second Chance….. At Life

I would try to gather up as much people as I could to start an organization that would help people in poverty gain the necessities of life, without stress. I would gather donations every month for anyone that would want to help. If people chose not to help it would be difficult to keep the program going, but I would make some good points so that people would want to donate. i would make sure they realized how good of a cause it really is.

I believe that some of the main reasons people that are in poverty become ill is not only because they can’t buy medicine, or food, but because they are so stressed out about what they have to do to gain the necessities of life. I think that without all the stress they could start to move forward in life. I would want this program to help those people release that stress, so that they can begin to live a much healthier, and stable life.

Saint Jude’s hospital really inspires me, because they have a statement that no child is turned down. I would want my program to be like that also, that no family should have to be turned down. Im not saying that it would be easy, but I know once it got started that more people would want to join. I would also set up a way that it would be easy to donate every month, and not be a pain. Once we help them I would want them to get a job and support themselves, I would keep in touch with them but if they weren’t trying then they don’t deserve the second chance.

  14. Second Chance… At Life

I would try to start an organization to get the three necessities that humans need to live. Those three being water, Shelter, and food. Then I would take donations monthly. Anything will count wether it would be a penny or a million dollars. The organization I started would then start with the ones who need it the most and keep going down the line until everyone is covered. The organization would basically help them get a second start at life.

Once they have the necessities of life and they can keep living on their own and supporting. They would have time tom improve their life as well. The organization would try to put them in a community where it wouldn’t be as easy to fall back into poverty again. That way they can stay out of the poverty line.

It would help everyone that is able to do some form of work. The philosophy about it is you have to give something in order to get something. Hopefully they would follow through with their part of the bargain or the charity would not work and they would fall right back into poverty.

  15. New Age of Food

New Age of Food is an organization created to give lower priced meals to the needy. The Co-Ceo’s of New Age Of Food are Logan Mayer and Jake fox. New Age of Food is funded by donations by the public and private sector of America. New Age of Food is a quick and ready to go “supermarket” for the needy.

New Age of Food will allow anyone impoverished to receive food and other basic necessities; like toilet paper, paper towels and kleenex’s. All of the donor’s to the New Age of Food supermarkets will be listed by the amount of donations they have made. As the ceo’s of New Age of Food Jake Fox and Logan Mayer will specially congratulate the donors.
The food purchased at New Age of Food will meet all FDA standards set upon food, and will not break expiration date on food label. There will be a section for expired food in back of store for free. New Age of Food stores will be found in larger cities will be found in lower-income housing areas.

New Age of Food will try to reach all the people that are needy. But all will rely heavily upon donors, which there is a great surplus of. The basic setup for New Age of Food will be able to deliver on certain days of the week but will have various markets if you reach the requirements.

  17. Disaster Master
Our program is designed to help out the communities and families. To help clean up their messes after a tornado or a fire or any other type of a all natural disaster. That happens our company will offer to people who have these issues a way to clean up after.

This way its less stressful for them to do on their own we provide excavators and dozers and equipment to help clean up their mess we take free will donations for our services and the government also contributes some to our company to clean up these messes. Then the fishies be clean, like Mr. Clean himself.

With us providing this to these communities. It would help them by cleaning their messes up and offering them a hand to get back on their feet. That way it saves them money that way they can get back on their feet faster.

  18. Our charity, Kewl Skewl Supplies, would provide school supplies to children in poverty stricken areas. We will provide the necessary school supplies to the students. The low income families can then spend that money on food, shelter, and other necessities.

Our charity is run off of private donations. We accept monetary donations as well as school supplies. We also have a holiday ball each winter to raise funds. We choose where we help based on nominations and poverty charts. We also never turn anyone down.

Our goals are to help 10,000 students in each state. We want to help in 30 states within our first 5 years. With our lofty goals of helping students across the country, it isn’t cheap, and we need all the help we can get.

There are other charities similar to this, but none on such a large scale. We believe that our charity has the potential to help people get out of the vicious cycle of poverty. We want to give students the tools to succeed, so they can find success and climb out of poverty.

  19. Our organization is called “Disaster Master.” We would go around and help people who have been hit by a tornado or a bad storm and help them clean up. We are funded by the government and free will donations. We would provide excavators and dozers to help out.

  20. Our organization, Kewl Skewl Supplies, will help families in poverty pay for new school supplies that are essentials for the school year. This will help the families save the money that they would use for school supplies to buy more food, water or shelter.

Our program is funded by private donations. You can donate as much as you would like. We take cash, credit, and checks. We also take donations of school supplies that have not been used. There are other programs very similar to ours such as ones that helped with Hurricane Katrina, but none as big as ours.

Our program will help in national disasters such hurricanes as people that are in poverty and need help to find a way out. Education is key in today’s society. If you have an education, your opportunities are endless.

  21. The organization The Helping Hotel would give people food, water, and shelter. It would give this to people by giving them a room for however many people they have in their family. It would help them back on their feet by offering a small income if we had any leftover money from selling products.

It would also help them find jobs by helping them with their resume and doing anything to help. They would be able to have a small garden so they could sell their produce or eat it. Our company would restore antique furniture and sell it to make a profit for the company and to pay everyone. They would be trained to restore old furniture so they would have at least one way to make a living once they were out.

It would be funded completely by donations and the selling of our products. We would hope that the people we’ve helped would donate to us so we can help more people and keep it running.

  22. Taylor, Ashley and I came up with an app called Destruction Construction. In Destruction Construction the object would be to build as many houses as possible in the least amount of time. You would also be able to connect with people around the world and play against them, along with friends and or family members who also have the game. In the game you would use mathematical skills, match numbers, which are located on pieces of wood that allow you to build a house. It would be a fun, educational game for all ages.

Destruction Construction would help funding for our organization, Connect with the Rest. It would do so by making money off adds that appear on the bottom of the screen. We are also taking donations, which will also help fund for Connect with the Rest. As for workers we are relying on volunteers, which will help our organization get on it’s feet.

We plan to start our organization in Minneapolis, Minnesota, because there is a higher poverty percentage there. First, we will build our main shelter with supplies bought with some of our proceeds taken from our app or donation. Then, we will fill Connect with the Rest with computers, laptops, tablets, and any other electronics we feel we need to have. This will incorporate technology into our organization. It will be a great way for people in need to use technology to get a better education and have access to opportunities that can help them create a better life for themselves. Not only will our shelter have electronics, but it will include things like fresh produce, meat, clothing, and clean water. These things will come from donations and could also come from any extra money we make from our app to buy necessities that aren’t being donated. This shelter will also allow housing for the needy.

While they stay at Connect with the Rest they will be expected to learn and begin looking for jobs. Then once they are back on their feet they will move out and stay in contact with the shelter. We hope Connect With the Best will be a big hit, so we can expand all over the U.S. and hopefully third world countries.

When people donate online we will send them a personalized letter from the founders, thanking them for donating. It is very important that we connect with those who donate, so they want to keep donating and help them realize that their donations really do make a difference.

  23. Today’s society is being based on technology more and more. We decided to create an organization that is based around technology. Our idea is to create an app that people could download called destruction construction. In this game you would use mathematical skills. It would be a fun, educational game for all ages. You would match numbers, which are located on pieces of wood that allow you to build a house. The object would be to build as many houses as possible in the least amount of time. You would also be able to connect with people around the world and play against them, along with friends and or family members who also have the game.

It would help fund our organization, Connect with the Rest. We will also take donations for our organization. We are relying on volunteers to work for our organization to help get it started.

We plan to start our organization in Minneapolis, Minnesota, because there is a higher poverty percentage there. 24. Our organization is called The Helping Hotel. It would provide homeless people in big cities with a place to live. This would give them all of the necessities of life: food, water, & shelter.

The people who stay at he The Helping Hotel would work in exchange for their home. They would grow some of the food they eat, as well as build furniture and restore antique furniture to sell. The grown food would decrease the expenses, and the selling of furniture would increase income. This would help the organization because it is funded solely by donation and the sales of furniture. Any income that is left over at the end of the month would be split up and given to those who work and live at the hotel. This would be an incentive to the people to work hard.

The ultimate goal of The Helping Hotel would be to help the people get back on their feet until they can get a job interview and eventually get a real job so that they can live on their own and support themselves. Once they are fully back on their feet and have adequate money we would ask that they donate back the The Helping Hotel, which helped them in their time of need.

  25. Since today’s society revolves around technology we decided to base our organization, Connect With the Rest, around technology. Our idea is to create an app called Destruction Construction. In this game you use mathematical skills and are able to play your friends or connect with people around the world. The object of the game is to build as many houses as you can in the least amount of time, but in order to build a house you have to match up numbers, incorporating math.

We will depend on funding from Destruction Construction by having adds on the bottom of the game. We will also have a website, in which you can donate. Once you donate we plan to have one of the three founders send a personalized letter, thanking them for their donations. Then, we would start building a shelter in Minnesota, Minneapolis, where poverty is taking a toll.

At this shelter we plan on having electronics available such as; computers, laptops, tablets, and any other things we feel necessary. The utilities will be paid for by donations and the money we earn from Destruction Construction. In this shelter the needy will be given a education using technologies and it will also allow them to connect with employers. So they can hopefully get a job.

At Connect With the Rest we will also allow necessities like clothing, food, clean water, and any other things we feel we need. These will also come from donations and volunteers. We hope Connect With the Rest expands and takes off. Making a difference in others lives.
